it's been a while since i got to new zealand. i left lax on the night of feb. 1 and landed in auckland on feb. 3, lunchtime. today's the 13th so i've been on this trip almost 2 weeks, but it's felt like much longer. i spent the 4th to the 9th in auckland at the EAP (education abroad program) orientation, so i got to see a lot of NZ's biggest city. they fed us at least 4 meals a day (more on morning tea in another post), took us to the museum and a maori performance, a bird sanctuary/tropical island, and out to dinner at a classy beachfront place called duders. then we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways, each with a rough vacation plan for the remaining time before school starts. 3 of my friends -- mike, stacey and angela -- and i took a flight to christchurch in the south island, spent 2 days there. then we rented a little car and drove from the east coast to the west along arthur's pass, then south to the franz josef/fox glaciers. hiked the fox glacier today. tomorrow morning we head back north along the coast towards the small town of nelson, with more tramping (hiking) and other adventures to be had before i take the ferry from the south to the north island, bound for wellington.
it's been impossible for me to upload any pictures so far cos my laptop hasn't been working too well and every hostel's internet that i've used hasn't allowed me to upload either. more to come, i've already taken ~500 pictures so there'll be plenty to see. hope everyone back home is doing well, love you guys
